In 2014, the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Celebration of Champions moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and in 2016, the show will feature a new event. The Celebration, which includes a derby, World Championship classes and the World’s Greatest Horseman competition, is scheduled for Feb. 12-20, 2016, and will host the inaugural Winter Premier Sale on its final day.
“The NRCHA asked us to have it because they like how we do the Legacy [Reining] Sale,” said The Sale Company Co-Manager Jennifer Anderson, who is producing the Winter Premier Sale with her partner, Mandy McCutcheon. “We’re just going to have one [section] for the first year, and just going to take 100 head, but it’s going to be run a lot like the Legacy Sale.”
The Winter Premier Sale is slated for the morning of Feb. 20, prior to the World’s Greatest Horseman finals. The sale, which will be catered and feature entertainment, will be held in the Watt Arena at the Will Rogers Memorial Complex in Fort Worth. For those who are unable to attend, phone bidding and a live webcast will be available.
Leading reining industry professionals, including Tim McQuay, Tom McCutcheon and Dell Hendricks, are working in conjunction with The Sale Company in an effort to make the Winter Premier Sale a success. While many of the consignments are expected to be reined cow horses, Anderson said she expects a variety of Western performance horses.
“It’s strictly going to be performance [horses],” she explained. “We’ll probably get mostly working cow horses, but there will also be some reiners, and I’ve already gotten a lot of calls about some really nice ranch geldings. We have quite a few entries in already and they are a range of ages.”
