A son of Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Sire Once In A Blu Boon led the way at the 2021 High Plains Ranchers & Breeders Association (HPRBA) Sale. He was one of several well-bred Western Performance horses sold at the sale on June 4 at Bill Cody Arena in Amarillo, Texas.
The 2021 HPRBA Sale included 72 head of yearlings, 2-year-olds and futurity-age horses that officials say averaged $7,271, with the top 5 averaging $21,600 and top 10 averaging $16,700.
The event is put on by the HPRBA, which is a group of 10 Panhandle area ranches that have come together to market their ranch-raised horses in an annual production sale and ranch horse futurity.
2-Year-Olds
Forty 2-year-olds were offered for sale, and the top six colts averaged $15,417 and the top six fillies averaged $11,617.
Officials report the high-selling 2-year-old and salestopper was Knot A Blu, a Chisum Ranch-consigned red roan son of Once In A Blu Boon and out of Rey To Play (by Dual Rey) who sold for $34,500.
The next-highest-selling 2-year-old was Metallic Blu Cowgirl, a blue roan daughter of Metallic Malice (by Metallic Cat) who sold for an HPRBA record of $20,000. Bred and raised by Zieman Ranch, the mare is out of Poco Blue Cowgirl (by Cowans Blue Cowboy)
Other 2-year-old highlights:
- DT Hickorys Sedona, a red roan filly by Hickory Holly Time and out of Savanah Cat (by Cats Merada) who brought $14,500 for consigner Durett Cattle
- Royal Titan, a Martin’s Last Dollar Ranch-consigned bay gelding by National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Open Champion One Time Royalty and out of Kitty Boon (by Peptoboonsmal) who sold for $13,000
- SRS Bet Hesa Playin, a Scivally Ranch-consigned red roan gelding by TRR Son D Seven (by Playin Attraction) who brought $12,500.
Yearlings
The 35 yearlings held steady with the top 5 horse colts averaging $9,980 and top 5 fillies averaging $5,180. The top selling yearling colt was Star Shooting Outlaw, a sorrel stallion by two-time American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Champion Shiney Outlaw and out of Shiny Starlight (by Grays Starlight).
The next-high-selling yearling was Frosted Little Snap, a palomino stallion consigned by Martin’s Last Dollar Ranch. Sired by National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby Level 4 Open Co-Reserve Champion Snap Dun The Bases and out of Frostys Little Diva (by Docs Frosty Lena Cat), the colt brought a bid of $6,200.
Futurity Horses
The top-selling futurity horse was Hal CD, a 3-year-old bay gelding bred by Chisum Ranch and owned and ridden by Gatlin Duncan. He brought a bid of $24,000.
HPRBA
HPRBA members are Chisum Ranch, CL Quarter Horses, Durrett Cattle, H Ranch, Martin’s Last Dollar Ranch, Michael Ranch, Scivally Ranch, Summers Cattle, Wing Brothers (Mike Wing and Jo Wing), and Zieman Ranch. Eight of the ten members also are AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders.
