Kevin Murray & Travelin Smooth Continue Hot Streak In Summer Spectacular Derby Non-Pro Finals
Kevin Murray (left) with Travelin Smooth and Michael CooperCollege senior Kevin Murray and Travelin Smooth won for the second night in a row Aug. 3 at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular. This time they topped the Derby Non-Pro finals with a 221 to earn $20,870.

Smooth Strategy's owners, Havey and Kyle Manion (left) were there to join in.A couple hours after securing a spot in the Derby Non-Pro semifinals with his owner, Smooth Strategy marked a career-best 224 and carried trainer Phil Hanson to a victory in July 31’s National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular Derby Gelding Open finals.

Trea Rice and CR Sun Reys Claim NCHA Senior Youth Scholarship Championship
Trea RiceFort Worth’s Will Rogers Coliseum was buzzing with excitement during the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular Youth Scholarship finals on July 25. The Junior and Senior divisions saw a total 53 entries, and the young riders from all over competed for championship honors. In the Senior Youth Scholarship finals, it was Trea Rice and CR Sun Reys who bested the field to take home the victory title.

Shannon McCoy Named NCHA Senior Youth World Champion
Shannon McCoy and PepcornThe youth competitors of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) gave it all they had during the Youth World Finals, held in conjunction with the Summer Spectacular, Wednesday, July 24 in Fort Worth, Texas. The top 15 youth cutters from the junior and senior divisions rode in three go-rounds, trying for the coveted world title. Shannon McCoy and Aubrey Pigg were within one point of each other, but in the end it was McCoy who took the National Youth Cutting Horse Association World Championship.

Sally Cats Hot and Cherrey Tie in Summer Spectacular Classic/Challenge John Deere Open
Dean Domann and his wife, JessieTwo 6-year old mares both posted scores of 222, resulting in a Co-Championship during Monday’s National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Classic/Challenge John Deere Open finals in Fort Worth. Sally Cats Hot and Jesse Lennox, along with Cherrey and Dean Domann, each secured $4,415 checks with those efforts.
