A total of 2,128 horses were consigned to major horse sales across the Western performance horse industry in 2015. Of those, 1,707 changed hands for more than $31 million. The best of the best hit the six-figure mark, with 30 horses bringing final bids of $100,000 or more.

The outstanding show mare Miss Ella Rey has carried Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Rider Ed Dufurrena and his children, Brandon and Rieta Dufurrena, to earnings of nearly $400,000. Her latest accomplishment put Rieta in 12th place in the 2015 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Non-Pro World standings. As a broodmare, Miss Ella Rey has now given the Dufurrena family the NCHA Futurity Open Champion Stevie Rey Von and NCHA Non-Pro Horse of the Year Purple Reyn. Brandon is the breeder of record for the full siblings by Metallic Cat.

Born near Brownfield, Texas, Kyle (pictured aboard Miss Peponita Chick at the 1982 American Quarter Horse Association [AQHA] World Show) spent most of his life ranching in New Mexico. Widely recognized in the industry for his trademark black hat and red high-topped boots, Kyle moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, in 1982 to be near his daughter, Jackie Krshka, and her family.

While the overall average of $21,260 was under 2014’s all-time record of $27,696, it was just shy of the 2013 NCHA Futurity Sales average of $21,323 and nearly $7,000 more per head than in 2010.
