The first National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity took place on November 13, 1962, in Sweetwater, Texas. That Sunday, as the three judges – Frank Dawes, T.C. Jenkins and H.J. Sonny Perry – rode horseback to the middle of the pen and strategically positioned themselves across it signaling the start of the finals, 20 riders tried to keep their minds off of the $10,438 to be paid out. It was the biggest purse for which they would ever cut.

Southern Cutting Futurity Announces Online Stallion Auction

SouthernAuctionLogoThe Southern Cutting Futurity has shifted their 3-year-old stallion incentive program to an online auction for 2017. All of the breeding fees collected in the Southern Cutting Futurity Stallion Auction will be paid to 3-year-olds by nominated stallions in the 2017 Open and Non-Pro classes.

NCHA Futurity Entries Increase

2016futurityEntries in the Open class of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Jerry’s Chevrolet National Cutting Horse Association Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance, are up 12.2% from last year.  The increase in Open participation is reflected across the board in all major divisions with the event’s prize fund exceeding $3.5 million.
