The reining community is mourning the loss of horsewoman Elizabeth "Liz" Haverty, 62, who lost her battle with cancer Sunday, Jan. 26. Her influence in the industry will truly be missed.
Bamacat and the highly regarded 5-year-old stallion’s career-long trainer Austin Shepard finally broke into the win column Friday in Augusta, Ga., winning the Augusta Futurity Classic Open title with a dominant 225.
After topping Thursday’s Augusta Futurity Classic Amateur finals with a 221, Page Bowman and Athena Mad Man marked a 222 Friday to top the Classic Non-Pro finals in the same Augusta, Ga., James Brown Arena.
Chris Little, 19, and Ima Little Ichi, an 8-year-old gelding he borrowed from a friend, topped Friday’s Area 18 Youth Scholarship cutting at the Augusta Futurity with a 222 to earn a $3,000.
Rieta Dufurrena and Ozzum Man, a 4-year-old gelding sired by one of her family’s favorite horses, competed last and best with a 217 during Friday’s first round of the Augusta Futurity Non-Pro cutting competition.
“I think he’s amazing,” the young rider said after she and the horse clinched a spot in Saturday night’s finals in Augusta, Ga. “He’s real physical and he’s real cool on how he can do some things. He’s really fun, that’s for sure.”
Following unanimous votes by the Las Vegas Events Board of Trustees and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Board of Directors, both organizations jointly announced today that they have reached an agreement to keep the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas through 2024. The new agreement will begin following the 2014 Wrangler NFR.
