Katie Young earned her second Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Futurity Non-Pro Championship in the past four years on Sunday in Paso Robles, Calif. In 2010, she rode For Instance to victory. This year, it was Copper Cat who carried her to a score of 222 and the $7,859 win. Both horses are trained by her father, Stan Fonsen.
The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) and Downunder Horsemanship are excited to announce that Clinton Anderson will be presenting a Colt Starting Demonstration at the 2013 NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) in Oklahoma City.
During 150 dramatic seconds in Paso Robles, Calif., on Nov. 2, the 3-year-old mare Sally Cats Meow earned $32,000 and upgraded her status from solid cutting prospect to possibly great one.
The horse, bred and owned by Tom Bailey’s Iron Rose Ranch of Cardonbale, Colo., carried Gary Gonsalves, of Millsap, Texas, to a final-round 225 and the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association/Borjon Auto Center Futurity Open Championship.
The 2013 National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity yielded a lot of great stories, like that of Open Champion Nick Dowers and Time For The Diamond, which starts on page 42.
One story that isn’t included in that coverage, however, involves an old man and a horse. He wasn’t a competitor, trainer, assistant or groom; he was just an old cowboy with a horse. He pulled into Reno in a homemade horse trailer that doubles as his living quarters for eight months out of the year, rode in the practice pens, watched cow horses compete and mingled amongst horsemen day after day.
