Jo Ellard Elected As NCHA Vice President

JEllardJo EllardJo Ellard, a National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Board of Directors member since 1994, has been elected the next NCHA vice president. On June 11, a total of ballots 2,585 were tabulated under the direction of the accounting firm Whitley Penn LLP. Ellard, Dallas, Texas received a total of 1,890 votes and Monty Johnson, Amarillo, Texas received 695 votes.

Horse Therapy Legislation Introduced In The House

Representatives Michael Burgess (R-CA) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) have introduced The Rehabilitative Therapy Parity for Military Beneficiaries Act of 2013 (H.R. 1705). This legislation would amend federal law to provide that military families and wounded veterans are entitled to be reimbursed for therapies, including “therapies provided on a horse” that are medically authorized. Univ. of Kentucky Study Suggests Horses Help Humans Learn

A pioneering study at the University of Kentucky suggests humans have a lot to learn from horses. Horses can help people develop empathy and enhance social and leadership skills, according to a recently-completed study of equine-assisted learning among 21 nurses at UK Chandler Hospital. Horse Slaughterhouse Accuses USDA Of IRS Tactics

NCHA Convention Agendas Online

The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Convention will be held June 21-23 in Fort Worth, Texas. Committee meeting agendas can be found online. Register by June 17 to receive the Early Convention Rate of $50. After June 17, registration will be $75. A registration form and hotel information can be found here.
