Tommy, Chris and Kyle Manion, owners of the Manion Ranch in Aubrey, Texas, have transferred their breeding business to ESMS on the Brazos in Weatherford, Texas. Their stallions, Im Countin Checks and Smooth As A Cat, both NCHA Hall of Fame Horses and both earners of more than a half-million dollars each, have already been moved and will stand the 2012 season there.

Im Countin Checks (Smart Lil Ricochet x Autumn Boon x Dual Pep), the 2005 NCHA Futurity Champion Stallion and 2008 Reserve Champion NCHA Horse of the Year, is an up-and-coming sire with his first limited foal crop just starting to show. Smooth As A Cat (High Brow Cat x Shes Pretty Smooth x Wheeling Peppy) was the 2005 NCHA Horse of the Year, sired the 2010 NCHA Horse of the Year, and his offspring have total earnings in excess of $5,795,951.

Operating as a breeding facility in Texas for 32 years, Manion Ranch has stood many of the leading cutting sires including the legendary Smart Little Lena, and is known for their cutting edge breeding technology, success with conception rates, and superb customer service – breeding 463 mares in 2011 alone.

When asked what precipitated this move after such a successful season, Tommy Manion said, “We’ve worked at such a frenetic pace for so many years, we just decided it was time to make a change. This decision will give us more family time together and allow us to really focus on our passion of raising and developing offspring.”

Tommy added, “Although this was difficult for us emotionally, we have the utmost confidence in Dr. Kory Niswender and his team at ESMS.”

ESMS on the Brazos, Equine Reproduction Center and Fertility Lab, is a division of Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery and offers a full range of equine breeding and reproductive services. This 60-acre horse ranch houses a 18,000 square foot stallion barn, a 100-stall mare motel, several oversized paddocks with run-in sheds, extensive exercise facilities and a state-of–the-art reproduction center.
