The Arbuckle Mountain Futurity kicked off Feb. 20, and the 4-Year-Old Open finals, which were held Feb. 23, were jam-packed with excitement. Out of 29 horses, Game On Smooth took home top honors with T.J. Good aboard.
The Bonanza Cutting wrapped up on Feb. 18 with the Unlimited Amateur and Amateur finals. Four new champions were crowned, and both Amateur riders were first-time limited-age event winners.
During the Bonanza Cutting 4-Year-Old Non-Pro finals, held on a chilly morning at the Silverado Arena in Weatherford, Texas, 17 horses and riders vied for top honors, but two Smooth As A Cat offspring took first and second place.
The Bonanza Cutting 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro finals took place Feb. 15 at the Silverado Arena in Weatherford, Texas, and the class proved tough. Each horse-and-rider pair gave it their all, and only one team scored less than a 210.
While there were several riders that had multiple horses in the 4-Year-Old Open finals at the Bonanza Cutting in Weatherford, Texas, one rider in particular had his work cut out for him. Lloyd Cox, of Marietta, Oklahoma, got all six of his horses from the first go into the finals, competing twice in the second bunch and four times in the third bunch. The hard work paid off when he rode two horses to a 223 and tied for the Championship.
The 5/6-Year-Old Open finals at the Bonanza Cutting, held at the Silverado Arena in Weatherford, Texas, saw two talented sets of horses. Many of the horses in the class boasted extensive show records and National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) event titles.
The final day at The Ike Derby and Classic was jam-packed with excitement, and four champions were crowned by the time the cows left the arena on Feb. 4. In the 4-Year-Old Non-Pro, Ashley Flynn piloted Smooth Sailing Cat to a winning 218, which was worth a $14,959 payday.
