The Tulsa Reining Classic Derby Open, held Sept. 4 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, featured $33,000 in added money thanks to a sponsorship by Cardinal Reining Horses. Every exhibitor in the Derby received a signature Cardinal Reining Horses jacket. Several of the horses competing in the Derby had the chance at an additional $10,000 in added money in the concurrent Whizkey N Diamonds Novice Horse Derby, thanks to a partnership with Rhodes River Ranch.
The 2016 Tulsa Reining Classic Hollywoodstinseltown Futurity Open, held at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma, featured $60,000 in added money. A total of 108 entries across all levels competed in the Ford Truck Arena, and three new champions were crowned.

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) announced the 10 riders chosen to compete in the $20,000-added NRHA Invitational Freestyle Reining presented by the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau. The event will be held during the NRHA Futurity and Adequan® NAAC, which runs from Nov. 24 through Dec. 3 in Oklahoma City.

While many riders made it clear from the moment they ran into the arena that they were there to compete, one horseman in particular achieved the top score by a landslide.
As part of an effort to improve the reining industry, Pro Management and Global Reining Sport Group partnered to put on a show management seminar at the Tulsa Reining Classic that was open to the public. The mission of the seminar, held Aug. 30, was to take the beginning steps in allowing show managers to learn from each other about the necessities of the reining horse show industry.
The National Arabian Reining Horse Association (NARHA) will make its first official appearance at the eighth annual High Roller Reining Classic, Sept. 9-17 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. The incentive program has taken the reins of the Arabian Reining Breeders Classic, a fixture at the High Roller, and made the decision to keep the event on track.
Twenty-three-year-old Missouri trainer Josh Murphy thought his horse, Got That Iowa Shine, had the talent to do well in the North Central Reining Horse Association (NCRHA) Futurity, held Aug. 4-7 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Apparently, he was being conservative.
The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) has announced that it is working on alternatives for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™ (WEG) following a mutual agreement between the FEI and Canadian Comité organisateur des Jeux Équestres Mondiaux 2018 (COJEM) to terminate the contract to host the Games due to ongoing financial issues.
On July 23 at the Reining By The Bay in Woodside, California, the stands were packed as the first pair in the Derby Open draw ran in and slid to a stop. As time went by, several big runs were posted, but it was not until about halfway through the draw that the competition really heated up.
