40th Australian Futurity Open Goes To Foo Licious, Phil Dawson

Phil Dawson rode Foo Licious, owned by Ryan Fielden to a score of 151. Dawson has earned over half a million as a rider and has been training horses for 13 years. He has previously placed second at the futurity.

A 227 posted Saturday, May 26, by cutting stallion Lil Catbaloo gave trainer and rider Lloyd Cox his second straight Breeder’s Invitational (BI) Derby Open victory. It was an exciting day for owners Gene and Michelle Morris, who were there to celebrate their first “rock star” horse’s win.

Each Derby had three Open divisions. Martina Morell, riding Dun Gotta Prize (Dun It Gotta Gun x Senorita Enterprise x Be Aech Enterprise) for Leigh Garber, Cazenovia, N.Y., scored a 225.5 to win all six open divisions offered.

A first-set 221 by the 6-year-old mare (That Sly Cat x Taquitas Playgirl x Freckles Playboy) and Snider, 33, Lipan, Texas, held up for a victory worth $22,826.
