During the Legacy Reining Sales this year, big crowds made high bids on well-bred prospects and proven performers. The sale, held at Cardinal Training Center in Aubrey, Texas, Oct. 20-21, is a mainstay each year for reiners and other Western performance industry members.
During the first National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales held in Fort Worth, Texas, flashy horses with solid pedigrees proved most valuable. Managed this year by Western Bloodstock, the sales took place Oct. 13-14.
Her dam wasn’t purchased for any reason other than because she was a cutting-bred mare. She wasn’t bred to excel in any particular discipline. Her foray into the breeding world was a last-minute back-up plan. And yet Myo Starlight has quickly become a rising star, finishing 2016 as the No. 1 dam of reining horses while also producing money-earners in the reined cow horse arena.
An unseasonably cool morning provided the backdrop for the start of the Marketplace at Ardmore Performance Horse Sale, held April 22 in Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. But, it didn’t take long for the good set of horses to heat things up.
Results of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes Sale, held April 8 in Fort Worth, Texas, showed a strong demand for trained cutting horses. Sixty horses – 77 percent of the 81 head offered – sold for $669,300. The net average was $11,155; the top 10 sellers averaged $20,250.
