Charges Recommended After Reining Horse’s Death

bellagunnabegifted bwilliams 12wBella Gunna Be Gifted, pictured with former trainer Barbara Williams last year • photo by WaltenberryA spokesman for the San Diego County Animal Service Department confirmed that felony criminal charges have been recommended against two people suspected of abusing the reining horse, Bella Gunnabe Gifted, prior to her Sept. 21 death in California.

Following several weeks of investigation, including analysis of the necropsy report and interviews with witnesses, the animal services department submitted its report to the San Diego County Attorneys office late last week.

Reining Horse’s Death Under Investigation

According to Dan DeSousa, deputy director of the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services, a necropsy on Bella Gunnabe Gifted has been ordered and charges could be filed if abuse is determined to be a factor in the mare’s death. The investigation also could determine abuse was not a factor, or it could prove inconclusive.
