Tom Sumpter Passes Away

red-ant-rey-tom-sumpter1994 NRHA Non-Pro World Champion Tom Sumpter, riding Red Ant ReyOn Sept. 1, Tom Sumpter, of Morriston, Fla., passed away while in the Intensive Care Unit of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. “He was surrounded by his family and it was peaceful,” said Sumpter’s wife, Sherry.

2015 NRHA Proposed Bylaw Amendments & Officer Elections

Voting for the 2015 NRHA proposed Bylaw Amendments and Officer Elections are open. Electronic ballets (eBallot) will be accepted through Sept. 8, and absentee paper ballots will be accepted through Sept. 4. Voters must be at least 19 years of age by Jan. 1, 2014 to participate. Associate Members are not eligible to vote in this election.

NRHA Hall of Famer Bob Anthony Dies

BAnthonyBob AnthonyOn June 29th, the reining community was saddened to hear of the passing of National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Famer Bob Anthony, of Tallahassee, Fla. According to his wife, Jean, after a weeklong hospital stay, Anthony died peacefully while in hospice. His daughter Sharon was at his side.

Canada Wins Bid to Host 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games

bromontBromont/Montreal will host the 2018 World Equestrian Games.On June 9, members of the Bromont Bid Committee, along with Equine Canada President, Al Patterson and CEO, Eva Havaris, announced that the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Bureau has unanimously awarded the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™ to Bromont/Montreal as host city, with the Games to be held at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

The late Topsail Whiz soared to uncharted territory when he became NRHA’s first Six Million Dollar Sire in 2009 and continued to surpass others by achieving the first Seven Million Dollar Sire status in 2010, Eight Million Dollar Sire status in 2011, and Nine Million Dollar Sire status in 2012.
