Non-Pro Conditions Update from NRHA Board of Directors

In May of this year, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Board of Directors approved a proposal to change its Non-Pro Conditions starting Jan. 1, 2018. After receiving a tremendous amount of comments and questions from the membership, the Board met on June 15 to revisit the topic.

Bob Loomis’ House Burns Down in Oklahoma

On the evening of June 8, National Reining Horse Association Hall of Famer Bob Loomis was out in his cow pasture with his wife, Pam, when he noticed smoke on the horizon. The couple headed in the direction of the ominous cloud to find their house totally engulfed in fire.

Baker Hired as Reining Horse Foundation Executive Director

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) announced the hiring of Leslie Baker, of Edmond, Oklahoma, to serve as the first executive director of its charitable arm, the Reining Horse Foundation (RHF). In addition, she will work on special NRHA communications projects.

Von Reminic Euthanized at 20

Von Reminic, who was 20 years old, broke his leg while out in the pasture on June 6. The stallion was euthanized, leaving behind a huge hole in the hearts of those that knew and cared for him.


The 2017 National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Derby will take place June 12-18 in Paso Robles, California.

NRHA Derby

The 2017 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby will run June 24 – July 2 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The event features an NRHA Affiliate Summit, several parties, the Cinch NRHyA Speaking Contest, ancillary classes and the Open and Non-Pro derbies.

Fappani and Hutchins Tie for 4-Year-Old Futurity Open Championship

During the Wild Card Reining Challenge 4-Year-Old Futurity Open, Gabe Hutchins rode Ladi With A Gun to a 219.5 from the 21st draw. The score topped the Level 4 Open and seemed like it would hold for the win, but then Legends West and Andrea Fappani marked the same score from the 32nd draw. There was a tie.
