The 2017 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Eastern National Championships wrapped in Jackson, Mississippi, on March 17. Skills and some St. Patrick’s Day luck were needed for the testy herds on the final day of competition. The event began March 6.

A Look at Snaffle Types with Dennis Moreland Tack
A snaffle bit is defined as a bit that works without leverage. It is most commonly made with a jointed (or broken) mouthpiece. Three common types of snaffles http://bit.ly/snaffles used in western training are the D Ring (A), the Eggbutt (B) and the O Ring (C). It’s easy to think all 3 of these snaffles work in the same way if they have the same mouthpiece but when we break it down they actually have very different actions. If we take a closer look we can see where each one might help a colt learn to respond to the pull better than another as training progresses.
The final day of The Cattlemen’s Derby & Classic – March 12 – was a busy one filled with finals. The Derby Non-Pro led the charge, and E.J. Huntley finished the class victoriously with HR Cats Starlight.
The Oklahoma Reining Horse Association (OKRHA) Ride and Slide Derby took place just a few weeks before the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC), and many Open competitors thought coming to Tulsa, Oklahoma, would be perfect for making final adjustments before heading to Katy, Texas.
