After five days of go-rounds, the first finals, the Classic Limited Open, took place March 29. From the first draw, Superfly carried Hayden Upton to a 222, which topped the seven-horse class.
High school seniors who are members of the National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHA) are encouraged to apply for scholarships made possible by the Reining Horse Foundation (RHF). Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2017, for consideration. Seven academic and need-based scholarships will be awarded by an independent committee based upon applicants’ academic achievement, financial need, future goals and involvement with horses and NRHyA.

It doesn’t seem like much, but when those three weeks fall during a busy breeding schedule for Inferno Sixty Six, it required some consideration. In the end, Bertolani got his three weeks, and during the first, Inferno Sixty Six justified his trainer’s faith with a crowd-pleasing win in the Lucas Oil Derby Level 4 Open at the Cactus Reining Classic.

But he hadn’t shown a horse at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity until 2014, and on Friday, March 24, he rode that same horse, Chics Dream, to a 218.5-point win in the Protect the Harvest Derby Level 4 Non-Pro at the Cactus Reining Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
