The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) is now using University of California Davis exclusively for genetic testing. Working with the California-based lab, APHA will offer a variety of testing options to APHA members. The new testing packages are designed to increase member awareness of the genetic possibilities when breeding their American Paint Horses. Included in the testing options are a comprehensive coat color package, comprehensive disease diagnostic package and selected individual tests.
Sept. 8, 2011 - FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS – Five suspects have been arrested in the alleged theft of 6,000 lambs worth an estimated $1 million from a feedlot in Gillespie County. The final suspect was arrested Aug. 22.
The Unwanted Horse Coalition's (UHC) Operation Gelding program has aided in gelding 246 stallions to date. The program, launched in late August 2010 with the help of seed money from the American Association of Equine Practitioners Foundation and the UHC, is designed to offer funding assistance to organizations, associations, and events that wish to conduct a public gelding clinic under the name and guidelines of Operation Gelding. An organization that has completed an Operation Gelding clinic will receive funding of $50 per horse, $1,000 maximum, to aid in the costs associated with the clinic.
