Dave Husby, a Canada native and businessman who also spent much of his time in Weatherford, Texas, raising, riding, and owning cutting horses, passed away suddenly on Feb. 17. The family scheduled a funeral service for Saturday, Feb. 18 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.

Equi-Stat Six-Figure Dams

The performance horse world lost a star on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when cutting horse Hes A Peptospoonful passed away. The 1998 red roan stallion was owned by Stacie and David McDavid, Fort Worth, Texas, and established an impressive show career in the cutting pen. He was in the middle of building his reputation as an accomplished sire.

Animal Welfare Commission

aqha_logoRecognizing that animal welfare is the single-most important issue facing the equine industry today, the American Quarter Horse Association Executive Committee has appointed the 12-member AQHA Animal Welfare Commission, which met February 6-8 in Dallas.

New Goal for Rein in Cancer

From a small beginning, the roots of a charitable entity found purchase and the result is little short of astounding. Rein In Cancer came to be through the efforts of three committed women, Shorty Koger, Tracie Anderson and Cheryl (Magoteaux) Cody. Each was new to fundraising but each of their lives had been touched by cancer and they all had very personal reasons to tackle a new project.

AQHA Offers Genetic Disease Panel Test

marefoal2AQHA is now offering a genetic disease panel test. Genetic diseases cause emotional and financial pain for horse owners and breeders. To help breeders make informed decisions, AQHA now offers a panel test for five genetic diseases – glycogen branching enzyme deficiency, heredity equine regional dermal asthenia, hyperkalemic periodic paralysis, malignant hyperthermia and polysaccharide storage myopathy.
