The invitational Equinety Platinum Medal Horse Sale Presented by Myers Performance Horses pumped $452,200 into the rope horse market in its first edition Sept. 1, 2023, with horses sold averaging $25,122 per head at the Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Carlos da Silva’s SJR Diamond Salsa and Cole Davison topped the sale at $65,000, selling to Steve and Monica Zimirak. The 5-year-old mare, bred in California by San Juan Ranch, is by CD Diamond and out of Cat Scan by High Brow Cat, World’s Greatest Horseman Corey Cushing started her in reined cow horse training.
“Nowhere else can you find a set of consignors like Cole Davison, A&C Racing, Fulton Performance Horses, Tate Kirchenschlager Performance Horses, Wilson Cattle Co., Solo Select, the Relentless Remuda and more,” Platinum Medal’s Billy Myers said. “This sale is designed for rope horse breeders and trainers, and we executed on that.”
Registered buyers came from 15 states in this inaugural sale, with 4- to 6-year-old, ready-to-go rope horses bringing the highest dollar figure on average of $27,025 per horse.
“It’s encouraging to see the horses that sold go for money that rewards the programs, trainers and owners who invested in the future growth of the rope horse industry,” Myers added. “We want to see more horses sell next year, and we’ve already got big plans to continue to promote the breeders within the Medal Program and the consignors for the next 12 months until we get to do this again.”
