Rarely has a mare of this caliber been offered to the public—continuing Solo Select’s commitment to raising the bar in bringing “The Very Best” to the horse market.
Legendary mare Blackish carried the NCHA’s richest rider, Lloyd Cox, to the $200,000 Run For A Million cutting championship with a massive score of 228 on August 17th, to take home $50,000 as her dam—the iconic SS Blacks Lil Kitty—is set to sell through The Select Online Sale Sept. 4, 2023.
With her historic win in the South Point Casino’s Equestrian Center main arena at The Run For A Million in front of a sold-out crowd and thousands watching at home, Blackish’s earnings now top $350,000. Cox piloted both Blackish and her mother, SS Blacks Lil Kitty—herself with earnings of $188,241—throughout their careers.
“SS Blacks Lil Kitty was an exceptional, cowy mare,” Cox said. “So many good things you can say about Blackish, you can see came through from the dam. Mares like SS Blacks Lil Kitty don’t come up for sale very often, so this is a great opportunity to own a mare like this.”
A 2006 black mare, SS Blacks Lil Kitty is by Blue Bayou Boon and out of the blue-hen mare Show Biz Kitty by High Brow Cat, making her a half sibling to some of the industry’s greatest horses including NCHA Horse of the Year and NCHA Open Futurity Champion, All Spice and NCHA Open Futurity Champion, Badboonarising.
“Solo Select has managed most of SS Blacks Lil Kitty’s breeding career the last two years, and she’s produced multiple embryos every year,” Solo Select Owner Melanie Smith said. “She has a really strong reproductive history, and we’re exceptionally familiar with the mare. She’s as simple of a mare to pull embryos on as you can have, and we’d love to continue to manage her for her future owners, with the possibility of enrolling her as a featured dam in Select Genes.”
Julie Jarma—still Blackish’s owner—has owned SS Blacks Lil Kitty her entire life. The mare requires no special maintenance, and she’s been an exceptional mare to ICSI or flush, known for double ovulating.
“SS Blacks Lil Kitty is the horse that started it all for me,” Jarma said. “I took out a loan and bought her on my own. She’d never been shown, and it was May of her 4-year-old year. I saw she was really talented. She’s given me great babies, and she created my whole program. My hope for her is to keep blessing other people with more babies, and to have another wonderful home she deserves. She has the biggest heart of any horse I’ve ever been around.”
This once-in-a-lifetime ownership opportunity is available to buyers registered through The Select Online Sale, available at bid.theselectonline.com and through the App Store or Google Play. The sale is exclusively online on Sept. 4, 2023.
