Leave Em Spooked Leaving Tulsa a Champion

Tulsa, Okla. has been host to the Tulsa Reining Classic for some time. Recently the show changed names to the 100x Reining Classic. The show offers $3 million in prize money and Leave Em Spooked earned his share.

Marking a score of 219, Leave Em Spooked (Spooks Gotta Whiz x Leave The Rest x Custom Crome) and Robert Peterson walked out of the Ford Truck Arena at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma the North American Reining Stakes (NARS) Non Pro Derby Level 4 champions. The second team to show, Peterson, from Jacksonville, Florida, and the buckskin stallion entered the pen a force to be reckoned with and exuded confidence.

“I just let him do his thing, like he’s a great circler; so really, the game plan was just to stay relaxed and not get in his way,” Peterson said. “I’m still in shock. It more than doubled my lifetime earnings, but it was just humbling to know the hard work and sacrifices that have gone into every show have paid off.”

Bred by Peter and Courtney Morgan of Reddick, Florida, the five year old is now owned by Goose Creek Ranch LLC out of Casper, Wyoming, who acquired him in 2019. In addition to winning the $60,000 added NARS Non Pro Derby L4 class, Peterson and Leave Em Spooked also took home the $15,000 added regular Non Pro Derby Level 4, both Level 3 classes and the Overall Non Pro Derby title. In total, the pair garnered more than $46,000 for their exceptional ride, with $25,000 in the L4 class alone.

“He’s a super cool horse. We’ve kind of just matched each other really well from the beginning, and he’s super easy for me to ride,” Peterson explained. “But it’s a team effort for sure. The entire barn team and my family, I couldn’t have done it without them. It wasn’t just me and the horse, but the whole team.”

Coming in just half a point behind Peterson and Leave Em Spooked, Surprizedya (Gunnatrashya x Dun With Surprizes x Jerry Lees Surprise) and Allison Rae Thorson marked a 218.5 in section one Sunday, August 27. Following suit, the pair also won the reserve titles in the regular Non Pro Derby Level 4, both Level 3 classes and the Overall Non Pro Derby. They took home $11,572.27 in the L4 class.

Another half a point behind the second-place team, Joes Genes (Lil Joe Cash x Electric Genes x Jacs Electric Spark) and Tish Fappani scored a 218 to take home $8,679.20 in the L4 class. Joes Genes and Fappani also took home the Toyon Ranch Mare Power Program incentive.
