In 2022 the Breeders Invitational Cutting (BI) boosted EquiStat offspring earnings for a select number of cutting sires. In honor of the 2023 Breeders Invitational May 13 -27 let’s look back at impactful sires in the BI Classic and Derby last year.
The top open sire was EquiStat $12 Million sire Hottish (Spots Hot x Stylish Play Lena x Docs Stylish Oak). EquiStat $6 Million rider Adan Banuelos piloted Hottish Metal (Hottish x Snow Me The Rey x Metallic Cat) to the Open Derby Championship for owner Jim Good and earned a paycheck of $66,907. He was one of four Hottish offspring in the open finals in 2022.
The sire with highest offspring earnings in the Non-Pro classes last year was EquiStat $60 Million sire Metallic Cat (High Brow Cat x Chers Shadow x Peptoboonsmal). Rider Kristen Galyean piloted Aspen (Metallic Cat x Lil Rattler x Dual Rey) to the Derby Non-Pro finals with a score of 223 and earned $23,982 at the show.
