Metallic Cat Gelding Tops Billings Livestock Horse Sale

Performance Previews and Roping’s, Billing’s Livestock Horse Sale’s April 22 event saw 401 head of horses through the sale ring, a Metallic Cat gelding topped the sale. April’s high seller reached $40,000 and the top five horses averaged $26,200. A new loose record was set at $11,800. 16 of the top 20 were geldings.

Brite Like Metallic (Metallic Cat x Swingins Brite Idea x Justa Swinging Peppy) a 2015 AQHA bay Gelding by EquiStat $60 million sire Metallic Cat was offered by Jace Crabb, Mangum, OK. Swingins Brite Idea, the horse’s dam, earned $7,803 in her cutting career. The true switch end rope horse brought $40,000 when he sold to Logan Seaton of Meeker, Colorado.

The second high selling horse, CeeYaAtSix was by EquiStat $153,320 earner CD Diamond and out of Cee Nifty Cash (Nu Cash). CD Diamond was the 2012 National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion and sired the 2018 Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion SJR Diamond Mist (CD Diamond x Cat Mist x High Brow Cat). CeeYaAtSix sold for $25,000 to Thomas Doolan of Monrovia, California.

Other top selling horses were sired by the likes of Cowboys Cartel, Slick By Design, Smooth Talkin Style, Electric Code and Woody Be Tuff.

Billings remains a budget friendly sale with 34 head of catalog horses bringing between $5,000 and $7,500.

Hip 32 “The Wolf” offered by Jeff and Christina Tift was the top draft cross with a $22,000 sale tag. The Wolf sold to Jhannes Von Trapp of Huntley, Montana. He was one of the two draft crosses to make top 20 at the sale.
