Sarah Dawson and Smart Chic An Tari captured championships in both the Open Two Rein Spectacular and the Open Two Rein for the Aaron Ranch at the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Teton Ridge Stallion Stakes on March 27 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This seasoned pair marked a 442.5 (H: 146/R: 146.5/C:150) to earn a total of $9,500, which pushes NRCHA Million Dollar Rider Sarah Dawson’s lifetime earnings to $1,622,342, according to EquiStat.
The last time Smart Chic An Tari was shown was at the 2021 NRCHA Hackamore Classic as a 4 year old. Smart Chic An Tari (Smart Chic Olena x Shiney Tari x Shining Spark) shares a special connection with Sarah Dawson, of Perrin, Texas, as she’s a maternal half-sister to Shine Smarter, a WR This Cats Smart mare Dawson recently rode to the reined cow horse championship at The American Performance Horseman on March 10, where the duo pocketed $100,000 as individual winners, and an additional $25,000 with Team Blue.
Dawson also won the 2015 Snaffle Bit Futurity Limited Open Championship and Intermediate Open Reserve Championship aboard Shine Smarter, and she credits the horse with helping launch her career.
Smart Chic An Tari has lifetime earnings of more than $145,000, according to EquiStat. The 6-year-old sorrel mare known as “Trudy” also has a number of Reserve Championships to her credit, including the 2020 Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Futurity and the 2021 East Coast Reined Cow Horse Classic Derby. She also placed fourth in the 2020 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity.
