Consistency Is King for Quizzicality in Idaho

Marking consistently in all three reined cow horse events is tough, but Quizzicality and Gusti Buerger proved they had the mettle at the Idaho Reined Cow Horse Association Magicality Open Derby, marking a 444 with a score of 148 in the herd, reining and cow work. For their efforts, they earned the championship title and $9,418.

The gelding is owned by the Home Ranch out of Clark, Colorado. The ranch also owns his sire Magicality, who was the title sponsor of the event.

“He’s a great horse, it was a pretty emotional win for me because I knew he could do it and it finally worked out,” Buerger said. “I’ve always known that he’s a winner but we just hadn’t quite gotten it done until this show. I’m pretty excited about it because I’ve always believed in him and I’m glad he showed up and we got it done.”

Buerger focused on getting “Cinnamon” (out of Shirley Shine by Shining Spark) shown cleanly in all three events. According to Buerger, his strength is in the herd work.

“I knew I was leading it after the first two events but I tried not to think about that. I tried not to worry about who is marking what down the fence and tried to get him shown and do what we could do with our cow.”

Buerger thanked the owners Home Ranch, boyfriend Dean Almog, help Cass Wood and Meagan McKenzie as well as Anne Reynolds for selling the Home Ranch Magicality.

Reserve Champion in the IRCHA Open Derby was Lil Starlight Cat (High Brow Cat x Lil Foxie Starlight x Grays Starlight) and Lance Johnston with a composite of 441 (herd 144.5/rein 147/cow 149.5) for $7,534 in winnings. Lil Starlight Cat was bred by Glenn and Debbie Drake and is owned by Kenneth and Karen Haugland.
