A $550,000 stallion stakes program for emerging reining sires will be held during this year’s Tulsa Reining Classic.
Officials with the show announced it will be one of two new events – joining the inaugural National Ranch Riding Futurity – that are planned for this year’s show, which will be held Aug. 27 to Sept. 4 at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
First held last year at the inaugural North American Reining Stakes, The Invitational is open to offspring of eligible junior sires. Last year, Jason Vanlandingham won The Invitational’s $100,000 first-place prize with Excessive Rufness.
“We’re so excited to host these two innovative events,” Tulsa Reining Classic Owner/Manager Pete Kyle said in announcing the additions. “The Invitational Reining is an outstanding program for first-class junior and freshmen stallions and their enrolled foals. The National Ranch Riding Futurity will showcase outstanding ranch horses. These events going to be a great addition to the TRC.”
The Tulsa Reining Classic also is home to the South Central Affiliate Regional Championships, the first qualifying event for the 2022 Adequan® North American Affiliate Championships in Oklahoma City during the NRHA Futurity and NAAC.
One of NRHA’s Top 10 ranked shows, the TRC features several outstanding open and non pro futurities and derbies, including the Silva Reining Horses LLC Open Futurity and Markel Insurance Novice Horse Derby. The show also includes NRHA and AQHA approved classes along with a National Reining Horse Youth Association team tournament.
