Winding Inferno Scores First Big Win in Vegas

Winding Inferno scored his first big Open win in the High Roller Reining Classic Futurity Level 4 Open.

With Andrea Fappani aboard, the son of Inferno Sixty Six marked a winning 223.5 Thursday, Sept. 18 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The young stallion and Fappani just edge the Co-Reserve Champions, who marked 222.5: Electrical Spook and Craig Schmersal, and Xtra Stone Cold and Sean McBurney.

Winding Inferno’s previous outing for owner Teton Ridge Ranch was at the North American Reining Stakes, where he was second in the Invitational and third in the Futurity Level 4 Open. When combined with his previous winnings, the $21,054 first-place paycheck from Vegas pushed his lifetime EquiStat record to more than $64,423.

Winding Inferno is one of 22 money-earning foals out of Wind Her Up Chic, a daughter of Smart Chic Olena whose top money earner is NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Champion Jerseys Baby Driver ($153,263, by Yellow Jersey).

An earner of $102,711 in the show pen, Wind Her Up Chic – whose EquiStat produce record now stands at more than $612,123 – is one of two very successful producers out of the mare Wind Her Up Doc (by Docs Sidewinder). The second big-time producer in the family is Wind Her Up Chic’s maternal half-sister, Wind Her Up Shiner (by Shining Spark), who has lifetime progeny earnings of more than $949,394.
