Dual Rey, one of the most successful sires in the modern Western performance horse industry, and two men who have made a major impact on the were recently enshrined in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.
The late sorrel stallion, famed trainer Bob Avila and Dr. Glenn Blodgett, from the 6666 Ranch, joined equine inductees 1983 AQHA World Champion Junior Working Cow Horse Zan Parr Jack, Thoroughbred broodmare Easters Little Klu (TB), racing Quarter Horse Mr Eye Opener and all-around performance horse and sire Triple’s Image to be enshrined at the ceremony Aug. 13-14 in Amarillo.

In addition to Avila, the other human inductees were racehorse trainer C. Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath of Dennis, Texas; the late Past Executive Committee Member George Phillips of Jackson, Mississippi; AQHA Past President Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas; and Blodgett, an AQHA Past President and 6666 Ranch Horse Division Manager.
Bred by Linda Holmes, of Longmont, Colorado, Dual Rey is by Dual Pep out of Nurse Rey (by Wyoming Doc). He earned $105,038 during his cutting career before embarking on stallion duties.
To date, Dual Rey has sired the winners of more than $49.2 million, according to EquiStat. He’s also an incredibly successful broodmare sire, with his daughters producing the earners of more than $29.1 million.
Avila, who also is in the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Hall of Fame, has earned more than $1.6 million during his career. That includes wins in the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity and the World’s Greatest Horseman.
