Kalicia Walters Wins Rookie Championship at The Run For A Million

The Bloomer Trailers Rookie Championship at The Run For A Million horse show had the sport’s newest non-pros packing up from all over the country to try for the floral neck-wreaths and bragging rights. Kalicia Walters and Pale Faced Whiz rose to the top, marking a 215.5 in a class with more than 90 competitors Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“She’s knocking with the big boys all the time, so for me to get to show her and be successful on her is amazing. Makes all the hard work worth it,” said Walters, who earned $1,009 for the win. “It’s all coming together.”

Sired by Pale Face Whiz and out of Topsail Whiz mare Ms Maggie Whiz, Pale Faced Whiz has been a frequent face in the open show pen with trainer Dany Tremblay. The mare and the trainer have done very well together, tying for the Florida Reining Classic Level 4 Open win with Spooks Gotta Crush, one of the possible contenders for this year’s Million Dollar Competition.

“We got this mare for Dany [Tremblay] to show as an Open Level 4 horse, and this mare has made all the Open finals she’s entered,” Walters said.

According to Walters, when she qualified for the Rookie Championship at The Run For A Million, Tremblay encouraged her to enjoy her mare at the show.

“I’d like to thank Dany and Fred for knowing that I qualified for this and looking at me and saying ‘Hey, this is time to step it up. Here is this mare you need to go win on.’

“Dany always tells me to try to stay calm and relaxed. I went in there on a loose rein and I trusted her. I knew her fast circles were amazing and I knew I could show her off. She’s such a show mare that I could trust her and we went for it,” Walters said.

According to Walters, Pale Faced Whiz is sweet and full of personality, constantly swiveling her slightly oversized ears like radar dishes.

Reserve Champion in TRFAM Rookie Championship was Rita Clausen and Whiz Eli Codie. The pair scored a 215 good for $614. The 2013 gelding is by Electric Code and out of Whiz Stage Doll (by Topsail Whiz).
