The Road to the Horse colt-starting world championship will return to Kentucky next year, but it will still have a presence in the Lone Star State.
The event, which was held this year in Fort Worth, will be held next year from March 24-27 at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The purse will be $100,000.
Due to popular demand, Road to the Horse will separate the Wild Card Competition from the Championship event, bringing the Wild Card Competition to Fort Worth, Texas, in September 2022. Officials from event owner Morris Equine Group, which also is the parent company of Quarter Horse News, say separating the Wild Card competition from the Championship event will expand opportunities for up-and-coming competitors, and allow the Championship event to feature additional clinics, demonstrations, and entertainment.
A total of six Wild Cards will be selected to compete in Texas, where the winner will receive an invitation to compete at Road to the Horse 2023.
“Road to the Horse is well known for its creativity, innovation and most of all, passion. It was a great boost for everyone to crown a Road to the Horse Champion in 2021” said Morris Equine Group President Tina Battock. “Out of challenges, come opportunity. The Texas event was special, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the Road to the Horse event to an expanded audience in both Kentucky and Texas in 2022.”
Tickets for 2022 will go on sale to Roadies on May 27, and to the public on June 1.
Road to the Horse 2021 Wild Card Champion Cole Cameron, secured his place in the Championship Competition by winning the Wild Card title in Fort Worth, Texas. Cole Cameron will be joined by three additional championship competitors.
