Several fun activities geared towards non-pro riders are in the works for this summer’s Dom Conicelli Memorial Eastern Derby, presented by MARS Equestrian™.
Officials with the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) say they know it can be daunting to compete at one of the association’s premier events, and they want to help non-pro riders make the plunge.
Held for the first time last year, the Eastern Derby is scheduled for July 10-17 near Memphis, Tennessee. It is the association’s only premier event east of the Mississippi River.
Special activities at the Eastern Derby will include time with NRCHA professionals for question-and-answer sessions, as well as social gatherings. Officials say additional details will be announced on the show’s page at nrcha.com.
NRCHA Executive Director Anna Morrison said adding the Eastern Derby to the roster of premier events was a way to bring the association closer to its membership in the eastern United States.
“For many of our members east of the Mississippi, the Eastern Derby may be the first and possibly only NRCHA premier event that they haul to, and we want to ensure that it is a welcoming experience that caters to the needs of our Non Pro members,” she said in a statement. “In 2021, exhibitors at the Eastern Derby, presented by MARS Equestrian™, will have the opportunity to participate in free educational and social activities that highlight what makes NRCHA so special – amazing horses, great people, and a friendly atmosphere.”
