Officials announced the date of the memorial celebration for Finis Welch, the late owner of Center Ranch.
Welch, 82, died in August. However, a public memorial service was not held at that time for the well-known economist and horse breeder.
It has now been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6 at Center Ranch in Centerville, Texas. Officials say additional details, including a time, will be released at a later date.
Horses bred by Center Ranch have won more than $3 million and numerous prizes, including the 2012 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Open Co-Champion CR Tuff Hearted Cat. The sorrel mare, like many of Center Ranch’s winners, was sired by ranch stallion and Equi-Stat Elite $6 Million Sire Woody Be Tuff. The ranch’s stallion roster also includes CR Highlight, a winning son of High Brow Cat.
Welch was survived by his two daughters: Melissa Lea Welch and Marci Lynn Welch, both of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Oliver Welch, who died in a car crash at the age of 21 in 1993.
