A great bunch of horses competed in the 2021 National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) preliminaries, and the current leaders are Gun Dun It and Andrea Fappani.
The Open Preliminary round began Wednesday, April 21, with 90 exceptional horses and riders all competing for a spot in the lucrative finals. The finals, a clean-slate showdown, will end with the champion taking home numerous prizes and a check for $75,000.
The preliminary round continues Thursday, April 22, and the Open finals positions will be drawn during the Matt Mills Reining Draw Party Thursday evening. The Open Draw Party, set for 7:30 p.m., will now be an in-person event. For those not able to attend, the Draw Party will still be streamed online in a webcast.
Level 4 Open Prelims
Taking the lead of the preliminary round was Andrea Fappani and Gun Dun It with a 226. The 7-year-old reiningin horse is by Equi-Stat Elite $13 Million Sire Colonels Smoking Gun (Gunner) and out of Dun It In Tinseltown (by Hollywood Dun It).
Owned by Tim Anderson and bred by NRHA Million Dollar Owner David Silva, Dun Gun It has lifetime earnings in excess of $146,000.
Level 3 Open Prelims
Currently holding the top spot of the Level 3 Open with a score of 220 is Smoking Trash with Francesco Martinotti at the reins. Smoking Trash, owned by Enjoy LLC and bred by NRHA Million Dollar Owner Hilldale Farm, boasts an impressive pedigree. The five-year-old is by Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Sire Gunnatrashya and out of NRHA Million Dollar Dam Snip O Gun (by One Gun).
Level 2 Open Prelims
Debbie Brown and Deja Vu With A Gun lead the Level 2 Open with a score of 217.5. Owned by David Silva and bred by McQuay Stables, Deja Vu With A Gun is by Gunner and out of Dun Its Déjà vu (by Hollywood Dun It).
Level 1 Open Prelims
Leading the Level 1 Open is Max Fontana and Gunnaflashmycash with a 216.5. By Gunnatrashya out of Nu Tuf Lil Chex, Gunnaflashmycash is owned by Sleipner LLC. The 6-year-old gelding was bred by Kim Muehlstaetter.
Development Division Champion
The NRBC Development Division Championship is decided during the preliminary round, and NRHA $6 Million Rider Shawn Flarida holds on to the top spot with a 221 on Americas Got Talent, owned by Marie Whitmarsh. The 4-year-old colt, by Equi-Stat Elite $12 Million Sire Wimpys Little Step and out of NRHA Futurity Open Champion Americasnextgunmodel (by Gunner), was bred by NRHA $2 Million Owner Arcese Quarter Horses USA.
He is a half brother to the earners of nearly $500,000.
