A daughter of Equi-Stat Elite $9 Million Sire Playgun topped the Marketplace at Ardmore October Online Sale.
The event, held Oct. 30-31, resulted in a top five average of $21,300 and a top 10 average of $16,650, the sale company reported.
“After more than 30 years of holding in-person horse sales, we weren’t sure how we’d get along with holding an exclusively online auction, but the response has been tremendous,” Susie Reed, sale manager of Marketplace at Ardmore. “With an overall average of $13,533, October saw our highest averages yet.”
Previously, the company’s online sale held July 10-11 had an overall average of $11,214. The overall average for its Aug. 28-29 Online Sale wasn’t far behind at $11,100.
“Our consignors tell us with no hauling or other travel expense incurred, selling online is a real convenient, cost effective way to get their horses sold,” Reed said.
Playin Like An Angel
The high seller at the October sale was Hip No. 24, Playin Like An Angel, who sold to David Marquez for $34,500 and is headed to Venezuela.
Consigned by Shane Wilson, the 2018 gray mare by Playgun is out of Heavens Little Angel, a mare by Smart Little Lena who won $46,217 in the cutting pen. That makes the Ardmore sales-topper a sibling to six money-earning performers who have banked a total of $178,621. Playin Like An Angel’s leading sibling is her half sister, Sweet Sister Cat, a daughter of Metallic Cat who breeder Ty More rode to several futurity non-pro victories in 2017.
“We couldn’t be happier with the direction these online sales are taking,” Reed continues, “Plus, we find the closing minutes provide plenty of adrenaline-pumping excitement. Basically, we’re trying something new that seems to be working and having lots of fun at the same time.”
The next Marketplace at Ardmore Online Sale is scheduled to be held Dec. 31-Jan. 1, 2021. Consignment forms are available online at: www.themarketplaceatardmore.com – or call Susie Reed 580-490-1103 for more information.
