Austria Arnold hasn’t ridden Cat About Houston very long, but they’ve quickly become a match made in heaven.
The Terrell, Texas, ride and the 2014 gelding by Metallic Cat won their second event championship when they took the 5/6-Year-Old Amateur title at the 2020 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Metallic Cat Summer Speculator on Saturday, July 25, in Fort Worth.
Earlier this year, they’d picked up class wins at The Cattlemen’s and the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity.
“We bought him 4-5 months ago from [his breeder] Rose Valley Ranch, and we’ve really done quite well from the beginning together,” Arnold said after the win at Will Rogers Memorial Center. “He’s a ton of fun to ride and super consistent, so he’s definitely a blessing to be around.”
In Fort Worth, they marked a winning 220. It was good for a $8,224 first-place check, which pushed the gelding’s earnings past the $113,000 mark.
Cat Around Houston’s Background

Cat About Houston started his career with a Reserve Championship in the 2017 NCHA Futurity Limited Open with Nathaniel Lansford aboard. He found success in limited-age events during his 4-year-old and 5-year-old years, mostly in the Open with trainer Michael Cooper, before Arnold began showing him this year.
Arnold rode the horse to the Reserve title in the 5/6-Year-Old Amateur at this year’s Bonanza Cutting, and then won the 5/6-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur at The Cattlemen’s Derby show. They also earned the 5/6-year-Old Intermediate Amateur Reserve Championship at The Non Pro Plus The Open, and picked up multiple Gelding Incentive wins throughout 2020.
