Event officials postpone NRBC to May 24-31

The National Reining Breeders Classic announced on Thursday that this year’s show has been postponed and rescheduled for May 24-31 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas.

The deadline for the NRBC and for The Run For a Million Qualifier has been extended to May 1, officials announced.

Any late fees previously incurred will be credited to accounts.

The organization also offered refunds on fees paid if competitors are unable to make the new dates. A cancellation form is available at nrbc.com.

The decision to postpone was in step with other postponements in the Western performance horse industry in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. Last week, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) recommended all producers of NRHA-approved shows to consider postponing or canceling all reining events for the next 30 days, effective March 14 to April 13.

The NRBC was originally scheduled for April 12-19

The NRHA rescheduled the NRHA European Futurity from March to November because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy, where citizens are still coping with the effects of the virus. Additionally, some NRHA-approved shows in the U.S. are being forced to cancel due to state or regional mandates.

“The Board and Management of the NRBC hold the health and welfare of exhibitors, owners and sponsors as our highest priority,” the NRBC said in a news release. “We will continue to monitor the factors impacting the event and will update with any further changes.”

The Board added that in the event of a cancellation of the show, the organization will refund all fees paid.
