Quarter Horse News caught up with Clayton Edsall, of Oakdale, Calif., after he piloted Bet Hesa Boon (Bet Hesa Cat x Flo N Blu Boon x Pretty Boy Boon) to the 2019 National Stock Horse Association (NSHA) Open Derby championship. The pair scored a 666.5 to win, earning owner Beverly Vaughn $13,000.

The win adds to the roan stallion’s Equi-Stat earnings of $49,939.19. In 2018, Edsall and Bet Hesa Boon took home the novice horse win at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Stallion Stakes Derby and the NSHA Open and Intermediate Open Derby wins. Earlier this year, the team placed second in the NRCHA Stallion Stakes Open Hackamore class.
