Mare By American-Based Stallion Leads European Reining Futurity Open Qualifiers

CREMONA, Italy | The daughter of an American-based sire is leading the way after the section section of the €162,223-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Futurity Level 4 Open qualifier. 

Showgirl Shining Gun and Gennaro Lendi held the top spot in the Level 4 with a 220, which put them a half-point over Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Rider Bernard Fonck and Spook Sunburst.

Lendi and piloted the mare for Swiss owners Grey Stone Ranch. Bred in Belgium by Vincent Miott, who nominated the mare, Showgirl Shining Gun is a daughter of Colonels Shining Gun and out of Shes A Lil Showgirl (by Lil Ruf Peppy). Colonels Shining Gun, a 2007 stallion, stands in the United States at Brent Loseke Colt Company, Inc. in Valley View, Texas. The horse (Colonels Smoking Gun x Shining Little Peach x Shining Spark) was the 2014 NRHA European Derby Level 4 Open Champion

Spook Sunburst, who marked a 219.5 in the qualifier, posted the highest score in the second section. The gelding  — who won last year’s Italian NRHA Futurity Level 4 Open Championship — is by Great Sun Burst and out of All About Spook (by Smart Spook).  The bubble score to make the Level 4 Open finals was a 214.5.


Level 3 Open

Topping the Level 3 Open with a 217.5 score was Davide Brighenti and AR Spat Snapper (Spat A Blue x Doc Snapper Bar x Snapper Cal Bar) owned and nominated by Renato Fiorio. For Brighenti, who posted a 217.5.

The Italian trainer posted the highest score in this division even though he rode with multiple leg fractures. The bubble score to make the Level 3 Open finals was a 214.5.


Level 2 Open

In the Level 2 Open, Frassa Alessandro and Giovanni Masi De Vargas closed their runs with a 215.5 score. The first rode his own Spat Gun Showtime (Spat Split And White x Jamie Showgune x Diamond Supershow), a mare nominated by Ambra Alice Bergese. The second rode Bugs At Nite, who is by Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Sire Gunners Special Nite and out of Scats Ebony Shiner (by Smart Shiner).

The flashy stallion is owned by Mariangela Di Pierro and was nominated by Cheryl Kaefer. In the L1, Stefano Ladetto rode Nikola Neef’s White And Whizzy (Spat Split And White x Rooster Roohide x Richochet Rooster), a stallion nominated by Nicola Roberto Occleppo, to a top score of 215. The bubble score for the Level 2 and the Level 1 divisions respectively was a 210 and a 208.5
