Welcome Home to Home Place Horse & Cattle Co.

We all know that High Brow CD was the highlight of Western Bloodstock’s The Evening Session sale, held during the 2018 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity. We all watched $7 million rider Austin Shepard tear up as he spoke of High Brow CD, stating, “He is the best horse I have ever rode.”

Chris and Staci Thibodeaux are great friends of the industry and have been such an icon to all of us. Their story with High Brow CD is one for the books! What a great contribution they have made.

So, let’s turn the page to the next chapter of High Brow CD’s life. We would like to introduce you to and get you better acquainted with the great people of Home Place Horse & Cattle Co., located in parts of Blackville and Barnwell, South Carolina. Home Place dates back to the pre-Civil War era and is operated by descendants of generations that worked the same property. Until recently with the passing of Robert O. Collins, there were four generations working on Home Place.

The ranch was an integrated cattle and farming operation until the early 1970s, when it became an all-cattle operation, which includes some of the great foundation genetics of the Santa Gertrudis cattle from the legendary King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas. Home Place now runs a Santa Cruz composite breed and Braford cattle, which are well suited for the hot, humid summers in the lower portion of Barnwell County.

Horses have always been an integral part of the cattle operations at Home Place. It is taking the horse operation to the next level, as the latest generation has put an extra interest on the horse breeding program. The Collinses no longer just breed for their own ranch use. Now, Home Place raises horses for roping, cutting and sorting. One of the members of the next generation at Home Place is the ranch vet, who specializes in herd health and reproduction.

“We are looking forward to the future here at ‘HP’ and eagerly anticipate watching the vision unfold that the next generation has in store for Home Place Horse & Cattle Co.,” Clay and Becky Collins said.

The Collinses added High Brow CD to their stallion battery, which already included: Rey Dual, the only full brother to the No. 2 all-time leading sire — the great Dual Rey; and extremely versatile stallion Stylin Cat, who is by the No. 1 all-time leading sire — High Brow Cat. When Shank Collins heard the news that High Brow CD was for sale, he jumped on the opportunity.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Shank said. “And, for me, purchasing High Brow CD was a no brainer. I am a huge fan of Austin Shepard and what he accomplished with High Brow CD is what dreams are made of. I knew immediately with his pedigree, performance and what he has already sired that he would be a great asset to my program.”

High Brow CD is now a $9 million sire. Of the sons of High Brow Cat that have sired more than $4 million, High Brow CD has the highest average per performer. He had the second-highest seller at the 2-Year-Old Sale during the NCHA Futurity — High CD Rates, who brought $200,000. High Brow CD continues to sire champions and finalists; he’s added seven cutting finalists, two cutting champions and five reined cow horse finalists within the last 30 days.

If High Brow CD isn’t on your list of stallions to breed to after reading this and seeing these stats, you probably should add him. Numbers don’t lie; we say that again and again. We also say, “A SIRE, IS A SIRE, IS A SIRE.” High Brow CD is a sire!
