What Does Your Future Hold?

Drawing from Experience cutting poster

This morning, while enjoying my first cup of coffee, I Google searched for an article on planning for your future. The results gave me several options, of course, but the one that caught my eye was on Huffington Post, contributed by Jay Lickus. The title was “7 Serious Questions to Plan Your Future,” and the questions had been taken from an old article on the website lifehack.org. As I read this article, it got me thinking – this would be a GREAT group project, and so it has become one.

That’s right, I want YOU to participate in a plan for the future. YOUR FUTURE! And in doing so, there will be a SWEET reward. This will take about 30 minutes to complete, and I can’t wait to see what we get from you.

We will be giving away a breeding and personalized stallion swag! All you have to do is answer the seven questions AND include this information with your answers:

  1. The stallion you wish to breed to in 2019
  2. Your goal for the foal

The questions are below. Good luck!

7 Serious Questions to Plan Your Future

By Jay Lickus

  1. What are the things I’m most passionate about?

The first step to living a more fulfilling life is to think about the things that you’re passionate about.

  1. What are my greatest accomplishments in life so far?

Think about your past experiences and the things in your life you’re most proud of.

  1. If my life had absolutely no limits, what would I choose to have and what would I choose to do?

Here’s a cool exercise: think about what you would do if you had no limits.

  1. What are my goals in life?

Goals are a necessary component to set you up for a happy future.

  1. Whom do I admire most in the world?

Following the path of successful people can set you up for success.

  1. What do I not like to do?

An important part of figuring out what you want to do with your life is honestly assessing what you don’t want to do.

  1. How hard am I willing to work to get what I want?

Great accomplishments never come easy.

Thank you in advance to all of you for taking time to read this and for entering the contest. Submit your answers to the questions (all questions MUST be answered to be entered) by email to [email protected]. EVERYONE who enters will automatically get a hat with a contract paid in full by Dec. 31. Of course, the current breeding specials apply.

Stallions standing at SDP Buffalo RanchDuring our open house at Buffalo Ranch, which everyone is invited to on Dec. 5, we will draw winners. You need not be present to win, and there will be one winner per stallion. That winner will get a breeding to the stallion they specified in their answers, and a personalized jacket and cap. Additionally, they will be featured in our Industry Insider with SDP in the Quarter Horse News FLASH.

It’s easy to stay in a routine when we are always looking at the calendar, seeing the list of things to do and deadlines right around the corner. Thinking about the future has really motivated me to better myself and how I manage ME!

Shane Plummer says, “There’s 24 hours… make the most of them.” Those are words to live by. Now, I am sure he doesn’t mean that there’s so much to do that I should be working all of those 24 hours, seven days a week. He is talking about a balanced life. It’s hard to keep a balance when SO many of us are chasing a clock, but I do know it is important. Life is short, there are no truer words than those. That is why a future we create ourselves by making a plan and following it is not only important, but also essential to have balance, feel fulfilled and be happy!

I LOVE WHAT I DO! I feel very blessed and proud of what I do. I not only get to work with some of the very best stallions in the industry, but I get to work with the best people in the industry. And nothing I do, no matter the hours it takes or what it takes to get it done, ever feels like work!

Our stallion owners are second to none. The relationships I build with them and the teams around them are friendships I treasure. I love that we are a team and really more like family. And soon, we will be working hand-in-hand and tirelessly with our most valued mare owners, the true decision makers in the industry. They are the risk takers and the dream makers, the ones who are breeding to create that next superstar. These are exciting times!
