Reiners Run Off to Big Wins at AQHA World Show

The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Lucas Oil World Championship Show experienced a thrilling display of competition in the Junior and Senior Reining finals on Nov. 9-10. 

Guaranteed A Magnum and Jimmy Van Der Hoeven, of Whitesboro, Texas, marked a 225.5 in the Junior Reining finals – but so did Oops Itsa Spooks (Spooks Gotta Gun x Tejons Finally Dunit x Hollywood Dun It) and Shawn Flarida, of Springfield, Ohio. The high scorers returned to the arena for a run-off to the thrill of the spectators in the Jim Norrick Arena. 

With a repeat score of 225.5, Guaranteed A Magnum and Van Der Hoeven were named the Junior Reining World Champions. The Magnum With A Dream gelding, out of Guaranteed By Amos (by Primary Pine), brought home a $5,641 check for owners Chad and Molly Cherry, of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

The Victoria Lambert-bred 5-year-old, who was the 2018 National Reining Horse Association Derby Levels 4 and 3 Open Champion, had $149,373 in earnings prior to the World Show.

After Ruf Lil Magnum and Thiago Boechat, along with Wimpys Little Buddy (Wimpys Little Step x All Thats Dun x Hollywood Dun It) and Martin Muehlstaetter, each marked a 224.5 during the Senior Reining finals, they agreed to a run-off and returned to the arena to dual it out under the bright lights. In the end, it was Ruf Lil Magnum and Boechat who took the Championship, allowing the stallion to retire from the show pen with a World title.

For his proficiency in Pattern No. 12, the 2012 Magnum Chic Dream stallion brought home a check of $8,274 for owner Silver Spurs Equine.

The sorrel stallion, who is out of the Lil Ruf Peppy mare Dunit A Lil Ruf, was bred by Ann Salmon Anderman, of Pilot Point, Texas. He had $98,280 in lifetime earnings prior to the World Show according to Equi-Stat, including the 2017 NRHA Derby Level 3 Open Co-Championship and the 2017 High Roller Reining Classic Derby Level 3 Open title.
