Committee to Select RTTH 2019 Wild Card Competitors

There’s a new Wild Card Competition coming to Road to the Horse (RTTH) 2019 that will showcase three gifted horsemen. Each one will start an untouched 6666 Ranch colt, and the winner is guaranteed a spot in Road to the Horse 2020 where they will compete for a $125,000 purse.

Road to the Horse has assembled an elite group of equestrians that will make up the Horseman’s Selection Committee. These knowledgeable committee members, who are experts in their field, will research and review each Wild Card applicant. After carefully examining each applicant, the committee will select three colt starters.

The Wild Card competitors will take center stage each day prior to the start of the Road to the Horse 2019 competition. Fans will be able to watch every minute of colt-starting action from these talented first-time competitors as they each bring their own unique style of horsemanship to Road to the Horse. Each Wild Card competitor will start one colt, in contrast to the main Road to the Horse 2019 competitors, who will be starting three colts each.

“This will be a great opportunity for some talented horsemen that may not be as well-known,” stated Western Horseman Publisher Ernie King. “But you can rest assured that their skills can match up with anyone who has ever competed at Road to the Horse.”

For the first time in the history of the event, two past Road to the Horse champions will go head-to-head in a battle for the 2019 World Championship of Colt Starting title. Road to the Horse 2016 World Champion and National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Nick Dowers will challenge international showjumper and two-time Road to the Horse World Champion Vicki Wilson for the title at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, March 22-24, 2019.

Fans can also look forward to a tribute to the United States’ Wild West culture. Collectively, the characters of the Wild West had one thing in common – their undeniable passion and partnership with the horse.
