An awards program is offering $1,000 to up to three young writers interested in careers in equine publishing to attend the annual American Horse Publications (AHP) Equine Media Conference. The event, held May 30 to June 1, 2019, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, provides educational and professional development for equine journalists
The AHP Student Award program, which began in 1993, was initiated to promote awareness to students of the career opportunities available in equine publishing. It will give up to three $1,000 travel awards to help students attend the conference. Additionally, one of the awardees will be given a $1,000 cash award at the conference. Applications are due Feb. 15, 2019
“AHP’s involvement with students is a rewarding experience for both the students and the association,” AHP Executive Director Chris Brune said in a statement. “Not only does it offer students a chance to learn about a career they may be passionate about, but it has also given equine media a long list of talented young people who are an asset to our industry.”
The application includes a resume, samples of a student’s work, letters of recommendation and a 200-word biography detailing equine background, media experience and career plans. Details of additional application requirements are available at www.americanhorsepubs.org/student-award-contest/student-award-guidelines.
