The Big Reveal

Each year, a deserving stallion is selected to grace the cover of the Quarter Horse News Stallion Register. WR This Cats Smart was honored as this year’s subject, as the Equi-Stat Elite $11 Million Sire has solidified his place in history.

A 1999 stallion, WR This Cats Smart (High Brow Cat x The Smart Look x Smart Little Lena) was bred by Wiens Ranch Co. Inc. He accumulated nearly $240,000 in cutting pens across the country before proving himself a versatile sire.

Photographer Ross Hecox captured the images for the new cover. He expressed how the 19-year-old stallion was calm and easy to handle. In addition, Hecox has continued to be impressed with the versatility of the stallion’s get.

“No matter what kind of mare they cross ‘WR’ with, his foals seem to excel in that discipline. He’s got great bone, and that really shows in his offspring,” Hecox stated. “The impact he’s made on the industry in a short period of time is phenomenal.”

Today, he boasts progeny with more than $11.5 million in cumulative earnings, and his offspring have garnered checks in cutting, reined cow horse, reining, ranch versatility, roping and barrel racing. Owned by Wagonhound Land & Livestock, WR This Cats Smart ranked among the top sires of all time in Equi-Stat’s Lifetime Cutting and Reined Cow Horse Statistics.
