Pale Face Dunnit made headlines last year when his daughter, Face the Attitude, won the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity Level 4 Open Championship. As this year’s ‘Big Futurity’ approaches, the stallion is making headlines again.
The NRHA announced on Oct. 30 that the white-faced dunalino stallion (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Lena Dun It x Hollywood Dun It) had unofficially become reining’s newest NRHA Million Dollar Sire. He also is an Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Sire, which includes earnings from other Western performance disciplines and incentives.
Owned by Schmersal Reining Horses and Silver Spurs Equine, “Gold Digger” stands at Silver Spurs Equine in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in 2007, he was bred by Rancho Oso Rio LLC, also of Scottsdale.
Pale Face Dunnit earned $70,838 in the show pen before embarking on his breeding career. He and NRHA Million Dollar Rider Randy Paul won the Rocky Mountain Summer Slide Futurity Level 4 Open Championship, tied for 3rd in Scottsdale Futurity Level 4 Open, and made the top ten at the NRHA Futurity Level 4 Open.
In 2011, he was purchased by Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Rider Craig Schmersal and his wife, Ginger Schmersal’s, Hickory Creek Ranch, LLC. With Craig in the saddle, Pale Face Dunnit went on to be a two-time NRHA Derby Level 4 Open finalist, a National Reining Breeders Classic Level 4 Open finalist, High Roller Reining Classic Level 4 Open Derby Reserve Champion, a top ten finisher at the AQHA World Championship Show in Junior Reining, and United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Open Reserve Champion.
His first crop was born in 2012. As of Oct. 31, he had an Equi-Stat sire record of 75 earners of $1,039,485. That gave him an average of $13,860 per earner.
