Wilson and Dowers Go Head to Head at Road to the Horse 2019

For the first time in the history of Road to the Horse, two past Road to the Horse champions will go head to head in a battle for the 2019 World Championship of Colt Starting title.

International showjumping sensation and two-time Road to the Horse World Champion Vicki Wilson will meet Road to the Horse 2016 World Champion and National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Nick Dowers to vie for the title at the Kentucky Horse Park on March 22-24, 2019.

It is a duel, but of what kind lies in the eyes of the beholder. Is it a battle of disciplines? Is it a battle of gender? Or is it simply two of the world’s most talented equestrians facing off to test their skills, one more time? With only two round pens constructed in the center of the Alltech Arena, one thing is certain: history will be made.

“It’s my third time back, but it’s no less daunting in terms of the challenge,” said Wilson, defending Road to the Horse World Champion. Her strategy coming into Road to the Horse 2019 is simple: “Build trust, ask them to give me their all and never quit when the going gets tough.”

For Dowers, Road to the Horse is all about staying authentic. “Road to the Horse, for me, is about staying true to who I am and the horsemanship that got me there. It’s about showcasing each colt to the best of their ability and not letting outside pressures deter me from who I am.”

In addition to this being the first ever Road to the Horse duel, both competitors will, for the first time, select three colts from the Road to the Horse Remuda.

Fans can look forward to a tribute to our nation’s Wild West culture while celebrating Road to the Horse World champions. Collectively, the characters of the Wild West had one thing in common: their undeniable passion and partnership with the horse.
