Dual Smart Rey Progeny Tie It Up at West Texas Futurity!

The West Texas Futurity kicked off on Thursday, Aug. 9, in Amarillo, Texas. On Sunday, Aug. 12, the Derby Open featured 24 horse-and-rider teams competing for the title, two of which marked a 225, tying for the win. Matt Miller, aboard Carolena Reyn, and Beau Galyean, riding Rollz Royce, were both awarded a check for $8,000.

Carolena Reyn, who is by Dual Smart Rey and out of Carolena Moon (by Peptoboonsmal), has garnered more than $148,000 for Miller and his wife, Megan, of Poolville, Texas. The 4-year-old homebred mare has been on a roll this year, winning the Derby Open at the 2018 Arbuckle Futurity with Miller, an Equi Stat Elite $3 Million Rider, in the saddle. She and Megan also tied for the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro title with Chad Buschaw and Bittersweet, where the red roan topped the first go-round, second go-round composite and semifinals!

Rollz Royce, a Dual Smart Rey Stallion, accumulated $110,620 for owners Tom and Lisa Guinn, of Philadelphia, Mississippi, prior to the West Texas Futurity. Equi-Stat Elite $3 Million Rider Galyean rode the 4-year-old out of Show Biz Kitty (by High Brow Cat) to the NCHA Super Stakes Open Reserve Championship earlier this year. The sorrel, who was bred by Royce Stallcup, of Seymour, Texas, also took reserve at the 2018 The Ike Derby and Classic when they marked a 222.5 during the 4-Year-Old Open.
