Langston Pattillo & High Stylin CD Destined For Victory

After leading the first go-round in the Metallic Cat National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular Classic/Challenge Amateur with a 218, Langston Pattillo and High Stylin CD carried their winning streak on to the finals. They went strides past their fellow competitors to score a 223 and claim the title.

“It’s always nice to win a championship in here [Will Rogers Coliseum], and this is my last year in the $50,000 [Amateur], so it always feels good to end on a good note,” said Langston, an earner of $129,560, according to Equi-Stat.

While the pair ultimately took home the win, “Jones” didn’t make it out without a bit of a fuss. On the third cut, he had to push through a cluster of cattle and sustained a few cow-kicks to the chest. But, he took it like the champion he is. Langston admitted even he was impressed with how well his horse handled the pressure.

“I knew if I would have quit riding that cow was going to get by me, so I had to keep going because it was going to get around me if I quit,” Langston said. “If he [Jones] is feeling good, he always does his job.

“He goes out there every time and he always wants to help me, although, he is sometimes a little rowdy,” he added with a laugh.

The Langstons were so impressed by Jones’ stop and try that they purchased the horse at the NCHA Summer Spectacular last year. The gelding (High Brow CD x Stylin Playgirl x Docs Stylish Oak), who is owned by Langston’s father, Blake, took home a check for $8,367.

This title pushed the 5-year-old Sunrise Ranch-bred gelding’s lifetime earnings to nearly $83,000, including successful performances at the Breeder’s Invitational, Bonanza, Brazos Bash and NCHA Super Stakes. Even so, Langston, a high school junior who aspires to become a veterinarian, said this win means the most to him.

Claiming the Classic/Challenge Amateur Reserve Championship was Taylor Worley and Blitzkat (Metallic Cat x Suggie Badger x Peppy San Badger), owned by Rick and Jennifer Worley. The 2013 gelding, bred by Goldwatch Partners LLC, and his rider scored a 221 to add a total of $8,004 to their earnings.
